South West & Open Championships 2026

One of the Friendliest Open Competitions in the South West

The Devon County Smallbore Rifle Association's South West & Open Championships returns to Budleigh Farm, Moretonhampstead, on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September 2026, bringing together shooters from across the South West and beyond for a weekend of friendly competition, camaraderie and great shooting. Whether you are an experienced county shot, a club competitor looking for a new challenge, or someone entering their very first open meeting, you will find a warm welcome at the South West & Open Championships.

New to Competition Shooting? You're Very Welcome

Many shooters look at county or open championships and assume they are only for elite competitors. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The South West & Open Championships are designed to cater for shooters of all abilities, with competitors grouped into classes and a range of disciplines available. Medals are awarded across classes where entries permit, giving everyone the opportunity to compete against shooters of a similar standard. [9-26 Squads | PDF]

If you have never entered an open competition before, this event is an excellent place to start:

• Friendly and supportive atmosphere

• Clear squadding and administration

• A wide range of rifle and pistol disciplines

• Opportunities to shoot as an individual, pair or team

• Experienced competitors who are always happy to help newcomers

We particularly encourage club members who regularly shoot league or club competitions to take the next step and experience an open championship.

Remember: every county champion was once a first-time entrant.

Free Entry for Junior Shooters

Junior shooters can enjoy the same championship experience as senior competitors while competing for medals, trophies and valuable experience.

The programme includes events for:

• Prone Rifle

• Benchrest Rifle

• Light Sporting Rifle (LSR)

• GRSB Rifle

• Centre Fire Rifle / GRCF

• Air Pistol

• Free Air Pistol

• Long Barrelled Revolver

• Rimfire Long Arm Pistol

Clubs – Bring a Squad and Make a Weekend of It

The South West & Open Championships have always been at their best when clubs attend together.

We strongly encourage clubs across Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and further afield to organise squad entries and team participation. Team events provide a fantastic opportunity to represent your club, introduce newer shooters to competition, and enjoy a social weekend with fellow members. [9-26 Program | PDF]

Excellent Facilities
